The Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic is in discussions with OpenAI and other partners about expanding cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence to regional education. The goal is to gradually provide safe and high-quality AI tools to all teachers across Slovakia and make them a practical part of everyday teaching.

The ministry is also building on the success of a pilot project with teacher training faculties and supporting new university research on the impact of AI on student outcomes.

Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming part of education, the labour market, and everyday life. The Ministry of Education therefore considers it essential that schools and teachers are not left behind by technological progress, but instead gain access to tools that can help them work more effectively, innovatively, and safely.

Expanding cooperation into regional education

The ministry is currently discussing with OpenAI and other partners the possibility of expanding cooperation into regional education. The aim is to ensure that high-quality AI tools are introduced into schools in a responsible, practical, and beneficial way for both teachers and students.

The Ministry has set a clear ambition to make safe and high-quality AI tools available to all teachers in Slovakia by the end of the year. The objective is not only to introduce new technologies, but also to create conditions that allow teachers to use them in lesson preparation, administrative work, and individualized student support.

Success of a pilot project

These efforts build on the success of a pilot project with teacher training faculties, which demonstrated that systematic work with artificial intelligence can significantly strengthen the digital skills of future teachers. The experience gained from the pilot project is expected to support the broader integration of AI into the education system.

Slovak universities also play an important role in this initiative. The Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU) and the Technical University of Košice (TUKE), with the support of OpenAI, will conduct research focused on the impact of AI tools on university students’ academic outcomes.

According to the ministry, the project has the potential to become internationally unique by providing valuable insights into how artificial intelligence influences learning, student success, and the quality of higher education.

The ministry emphasizes that the goal is not to replace teachers, but to strengthen and support their work. AI should serve as a tool that helps reduce routine tasks and gives teachers more time to focus on students and the development of their skills and potential.

Focus on long-term benefits

Through these steps, Slovakia aims to position itself among countries that approach artificial intelligence in education responsibly, systematically, and with a strong focus on long-term benefits.

Cooperation with OpenAI, partnerships with other organizations, and the involvement of Slovak universities are intended to become important milestones in the modernization of Slovak education.
