AI is already shaping the lives of children, teachers and parents. Education about artificial intelligence and the use of appropriate AI tools in schools are therefore not a passing trend. Primary Schools
The AI literacy covers the principles of how artificial intelligence works, creating and collaborating with AI, developing critical thinking, emphasising responsibility and safety, and building a healthy digital identity and balance.
Secondary Schools
By the end of 2026, we will update the national curricula for secondary schools to strengthen education in artificial intelligence and embed AI literacy as a cross-cutting component of upper secondary education.
Mental Health
From 2026, the Education Act strengthens the protection of mental health and includes the development of students’ emotional literacy and emotional resilience among the objectives of education.
Equal Access to AI
The aim is to ensure equal access to high-quality artificial intelligence tools for all pupils and students in Slovakia, regardless of their socio-economic background, region or their school’s level of technological equipment.
AI Days in Schools Across Slovakia
One hundred primary and secondary schools have received support to organise events dedicated to the use of AI in education. AI Days create space for sharing experience, practical demonstrations, and discussions about opportunities and challenges. Each school received a grant of €2,000.
Support for the Use of AI in Education
The €3 million programme will bring secure AI tools to schools. The project will include the piloting of AI tools in primary and secondary schools. Teachers will receive support, students will gain access to personalised learning, and schools will be able to use AI vouchers to test solutions based on their specific needs.
Responsible Use of AI
Simple rules that help schools in Slovakia use artificial intelligence responsibly, with a strong focus on the quality of education.
Safe and Fair Environment
Principle: Establish shared rules for the use of AI so that it is safe, fair and accessible to all students and school staff:
- actively communicate about AI with teachers and students,
- seek ways to make AI tools accessible to everyone without reinforcing inequalities,
- encourage the sharing of experience and training to ensure AI is used effectively in teaching.
The goal is to ensure that AI is not a privileged tool for a few, but a means of improving education for all.
Development of Literacy and Critical Thinking
Principle: The school fosters understanding of how AI works and promotes its responsible use so that students and teachers can:
- distinguish when and how to use AI,
- understand its limitations and risks, such as misinformation or AI-generated content,
- integrate AI principles across subjects, not only in ICT.
This strengthens the school’s ability to ensure that AI becomes a tool to support learning, not merely a technological novelty.
Responsibility, Protection and Community Engagement
Principle: AI is used ethically, with respect for students’ privacy and rights, and with the active involvement of all relevant stakeholders:
- school rules clearly define personal data protection and the conditions for using AI tools,
- the school ensures parental consent where required,
- teachers and students are involved in decisions about how AI is used and implemented.
Supporting open discussion and shared decision-making strengthens parents’ trust and enhances the school culture around the use of AI.
