AI in Higher Education
in Slovakia

Artificial intelligence is transforming higher education. It affects teaching, research, and graduates’ employability in the labour market. Slovak universities are undergoing a systematic transformation aimed at preparing students to work with AI technologies, developing advanced skills, and strengthening Slovakia’s competitiveness in Europe. The integration of AI is being carried out in line with the Responsible Use of AI in Education Plan and with European initiatives in the field of strategic technologies.

AI a vysoké školy

Higher Education in the Age of AI

Universities play a key role in the development of AI and the digital economy. They prepare experts for data-driven professions, advance research and innovation in AI, and shape future teachers, developers, managers and public policy leaders.

Future-Ready Graduate

A graduate understands artificial intelligence within their field, can work with it effectively, and critically assess its outputs. They use AI responsibly as a tool to enhance the quality of their work and as a natural part of their professional identity, not as a substitute for their own thinking.

Key Initiatives

Universities are advancing AI through several initiatives. These include the responsible use of generative AI, new and updated study programmes, the establishment of AI competence centres, STEP calls, and cooperation with the OECD to support the modernisation of higher education.

Support for Universities

Framework for the Use of AI in Higher Education

From 2026, the Ministry of Education, in cooperation with the OECD, will launch a project to support universities in implementing artificial intelligence. The project will focus on the use of AI in teaching and on improving the efficiency of university administration. It will include a nationwide seminar featuring examples of good practice and a platform for sharing experience, to be held on 6 March 2026.

Reforming Higher Education for the AI Era

Universities need simpler and more modern rules to better serve students, faculty and society. The new legislation gives them greater autonomy, less bureaucracy and a stronger ability to respond to labour market needs. Students will benefit from more flexible study paths, stronger links between theory and practice, and new opportunities for shorter programmes. The changes support innovation, artificial intelligence and higher-quality research.
